I hope I am doing this right subject wise, I am curious: I was wondering how much battery life do you expect to see by default if you have a web browser like firefox open. I also wondered when the 4gb ram supporting processor will be an option. Is the printed for you version easy to build? and finally I am curious, is it extremely stable? just because it is made partly of wood that makes me curious. fire problem aka...

Wandering off-topic again, it seems that a KDE laptop has been announced: https://dot.kde.org/2017/01/26/kde-and-slimbook-release-laptop-kde-fans It's Intel-based, so not interesting for everyone here, and more of a power user's laptop: http://kde.slimbook.es/hardware KDE Neon is based on Ubuntu 16.04 at the moment so, again, maybe not to everyone's taste, but another option for some people, maybe. Not sure about the choice of name myself... :-p David

I tried to point him to the EC firmware but "http://hands.com/~lkcl/eoma" is bit of a mess. It contains a lot of (historical) info without structure. Also I find. http://rhombus-tech.net/community_ideas/laptop_15in/ and the e-linux wiki hard to navigate. It's messy. If I'd like to start hacking on the laptop a staring point would be nice.

Question about resolution on the micro-desktop

Hey, I'm wondering something. So, one of the features of the micro-desktop is a VGA port. I assume that it's probably connected to the RGB/TTL, right? And the page on the EOMA68 standard states: > The maximum RGB/TTL resolution permitted is 1366 x 768. A bit off-topic, perhaps, but this article illustrates the difficulties that large corporations have with long term visions, especially in cases where sustainability has to compete with profitability: http://venturebeat.com/2017/01/10/inside-project-ara-googles-revolutionary- modular-phone/ Found via OSNews: http://www.osnews.com/story/29600/The_dream_of_Ara I think the drive to focus on profits and what "consumers" supposedly want in corporate environments tends to undermine projects like these, even when the work is being done in part of an organisation that is supposed to be shielded from commercial concerns. Because conventional wisdom suggests that the public won't buy modular phones, no modular phones are made, even if there might be a demand for them if they were made. Indeed, just the availability of modular phones might drive demand for them. This suggests a lack of imagination on the industry's part which I think is shown by the example of a phone module given in the article: a tiny "aquarium". Very interesting, but not really something that would sell the practical benefits of modularity. Of course, you need examples of what the system can do, but it's often the case that the most interesting ideas come from third parties. Just getting the devices out there with open specs and documentation would be enough to find the interesting use cases. Anyway, this is only sort of relevant here, but I hope it was thought provoking. ;-) David

Since I'm posting links to random things, here's another upcoming laptop product: https://www.pine64.org/?page_id=3707 It's clearly not comparable to the EOMA68 laptop because it lacks the modularity, and is obviously not as flexible as a result, and it's fairly limited in terms of the interfaces and expansion options it offers. However, because it's so cheap, it might be a bit of a worrying development for vendors who are selling laptops based on boards like the Raspberry Pi, because some of the sales of those go to people who just want a cheap laptop rather than people who want to use them in educational settings. It shows how low prices can get, and that is perhaps more interesting for EOMA68 because it suggests a price point that a mass-market laptop could aim for. David
